Interesting to read about this. I guess one thing we can start doing is to deal with some of the underlying societal problems. For example, the organization I work for is trying to help young people come to terms with a lot of the anger and turmoil they're experiencing so that it doesn't result in violence. Similarly, I know of organizations hat are working towards reconciliation between people of different faiths and cultures in the light of religious fundamentalism. In South Africa we've come to realise we cannot depend on the police force - a reactive response - but all need to get stuck in with addressing the problems proactively.
